Learning objectives:- “Learners should be taught to trace and understand the main events of chronological, continuous descriptive and explanatory texts of more than one paragraph.” These Resource Sheets are meant as teaching aids for this section to use in group activity sessions. It may be prudent to laminate them for repeated use. The resources in this section consist of 5 examples of every day texts the learners may need to read and understand. It is important for them to realise that they do not have to be able to read every single word to be able to get the gist of a piece of text and you should encourage them to use other clues where necessary. There are Learning objectives:- “Learners should be taught to identify the main points and ideas, and predict words from context.” There is one three page Resource Sheet for this section consisting of a variety of documents of differing layout and content. They contain such features as headings, sub-headings, bold print, italic print, block capitals and the use of paragraphing etc. to aid the learners in their identification of the main points. Many of the texts contain vocabulary not usually met at this level and the learners should be encouraged to predict the meaning from the overall context. relevant worksheets for each Resource Sheet to test their individual understanding after group reading and discussion.
